Growing Prometheum

Rod Prometheum is a small, distinct, monophyletic (natural) group of 8 species having a common origin. The group evolved from the genus Sedum subgenus Gormania in Iranian - Turkish area. Some species are closely related genus Rosularia, which differ from the absence of developed caudex, shaped cyme inflorescence instead of panicles, less connected petals. Seven taxa are recorded from areas in Turkey, three species are endemic in Anatolia - Prometheum chrysanthum, Prometheum muratdaghense and Prometheum sempertinicum. Remaining four species are also distributed in the Caucasus, Iran and Iraq - namely Prometheum Aizoon, Prometheum pilosum, Prometheum rechingeri and P rometheum sempervivoides. And finally Prometheum tymphaeum, which is a European species, grows at altitudes of 2000 m of the Greek mountains.

Because it is an alpine plants, some species may warm climate make our problems. It's a hot dry summer and the problem is also the rainy weather of late autumn and early spring. Because Prometea grow in areas with rapid water runoff and higher humidity, we expect at least a little by creating similar conditions for planting the garden.

The best place in the cultivation of the vertical gap between the stones, which is secured by a quick water drainage. This will prevent water retention and waterlogging in the rose roots. Rosette leaves are densely covered with fine hairs and permanent waterlogging of the surface can cause decay and death rose whole plants. Prometea are interesting and the right conditions for long-term alpine plants. Certainly deserve our attention to its place in the garden.
